Griffith Observatory, Los Angeles: Part 1

Perched on the edge of Mount Hollywood in Los Angeles, California, the Griffith Observatory is an iconic landmark that's as amazing as the pictures you've seen would lead you to believe. Built between 1933 to 1935, the Griffith Observatory features an array of science and astronomy exhibits, as well as stunning views of downtown Los Angeles, Hollywood, and the Pacific Ocean.

I visited with the goal of capturing the location and then hiking to the Hollywood Sign - which is actually quite a bit further than your eyes suggest (but so worth it). Exploring the building, it was easy to fall in love with the art deco architecture. Everything is beautifully maintained and it's just so L.A. that you feel yourself constantly reminded of various pop culture moments with each step. Yes, it's busy and buzzing with tourists, and it's absolutely amazing.
