Opened in 2019, the Vessel was an attraction built as part of the Hudson Yards redevelopment in New York City. These images are from that opening year when access to the top of the structure was unrestricted and the observation deck was a social media must-share.
Unfortunately, a string of suicides at the site resulted in the indefinite closure of the Vessel in 2021. Today, the Vessel remains a landmark of Hudson Yards, but visitors are no longer able to climb these stairs and take in the views. While new safety nets and preventive measures have continually been discussed, the future of the attraction is a contentious topic and it remains unclear whether the Vessel will reopen. Although, it seems unlikely that the Vessel will ever operate again in its original state, making these images at Hudson Yards archival.
