Leland Stanford Mansion in Sacramento, California

Originally built in 1857, and expanded in 1872, this mansion in Sacramento, California is notably the former home of Governor, Senator, railroad tycoon, and university founder, Leland Stanford (1824-1893). Located just a few blocks from the State Capitol, the Leland Stanford Mansion is now the state's official reception center for leaders from around the world.


An extensive $22 million, 14 year restoration of the Leland Stanford Mansion was completed in 2005 that brought the home back to how it looked in 1872. Pending official state functions, guided tours of the home and its fully refurbished rooms are available through the visitor center. It's an incredible home to explore, unfortunately no photography is allowed inside.

Starship Enterprise in Vulcan, Alberta

As far as quirky roadside attractions go, the Starship Enterprise in Vulcan, Alberta certainly stands out in this small prairie town. Little touches of Star Trek are easy to spot here, not the least of which are the vulcan (Spock) ears you can buy in the visitor centre.

The United Kingdom is one of the 11 countries represented in World Showcase within Epcot at Walt Disney World in Florida. Designed to resemble a quaint British village, the pavilion features cottages, and English garden, red phone boxes, and notably the Rose & Crown pub.
