USS Bowfin Submarine, Pearl Harbor

Docked at Pearl Harbor in Oahu, Hawaii, the USS Bowfin Submarine is a museum and memorial honoring submariners who served in World War 2. The submarine is open for public tours, allowing visitors to explore the corridors, controls, and history of this 1940s era vessel.

One thing that's immediately clear while exploring this submarine is that you wouldn't want to be claustrophobic. Not surprisingly, there's little room for added comforts. The number of gauges, levers, and switches is also overwhelming, and you almost can't believe that anyone was able to make sense of it all. The USS Bowfin has been beautifully restored and maintained, and with Pearl Harbor as a backdrop, it's a thoroughly authentic place to get lost in World War 2 history.

Roadside California Promo

From the coast to the desert and back again, my Roadside California photography series has been a lot of fun to put together. To recap the progress I've made so far I felt it was time to do a highlight reel of some of my favorite shots. Stay tuned, I'll be back in California in a few weeks time to continue this project. Until then, explore the journey here

Exploring the History of Alberta

I have always been fascinated with history. If you're familiar with my Around the Hat or Around Alberta photography projects then you've likely seen some of my photo essays on landmarks and cultural sites throughout the province. So, what's new?

history of alberta archival photography seriesI recently launched a brand new Facebook page dedicated to the History of Alberta - and I promise that it's not nearly as dry as it sounds! From cool railway travel posters to vintage postcards to captivating turn-of-the-century street scenes, my goal is to showcase history with a bit of creativity and style. My motivation behind the project is to create a larger platform to share my photography and original content specifically about Alberta, while rounding it out with the support of archival imagery and historic resources. In essence, to link creativity and facts.

history of alberta travel images postersMore than just providing a glimpse at archival images, I want the page to link to stories and content that get people excited about where we are in the world. I think my existing library of original images gives me a head start, while also providing the potential to expand on my ghosting series - where I merge archival images with my modern day shots.

I'm excited to see how this project evolves, and I'd love for you to be a part of it. Have a look at the new space and give it a LIKE on Facebook to follow along as it grows! Click here to explore the brand new History of Alberta.
