Exploring Alberta

As this blog post goes live I'll be cruising into the Alberta wilderness for a week of creative photo journaling through the Rocky Mountains. From Waterton Lakes to Jasper National Park I expect to cover roughly a thousand kilometers through some of the most picturesque landscapes that Alberta (and Canada for that matter) has to offer.

The goal is to enhance my image library as part of my Around Alberta collection, and ultimately use the images for future blog content and portfolio building. I've said it before, but after the success of Around the Hat, documenting the province was the logical next step. Follow my week long adventure @editingluke to see highlights on my instagram account.

Chuckwagon Races in Medicine Hat: Part 1

Last weekend I attended the chuckwagon races at the Stampede grounds in Medicine Hat, Alberta with my family. I took the opportunity to photograph a few of the heats, and came away rather pleased with what I'd shot. Between the energetic horses and the muddy track, there was lots of action that made for a really good time.

Cliffs of Medicine Hat

It's easy to become jaded after years of seeing the same view, but Medicine Hat, Alberta has a pretty incredible backdrop. The cliffs carved around the bend of the South Saskatchewan River mark the edge of the city and frame the natural landscape that is Police Point Park. On the edge of the clay district last week I stopped to take these pictures. It was an instant reminder of what an amazing part of the world we live in.
