Vintage 6th Avenue Postcard

This vintage postcard of downtown Medicine Hat, Alberta is the latest piece of local history to be added to my collection. Showing the corner of today's 2nd street and 6th avenue, this unused postcard is likely from between 1910 to 1920. On the right is the Canadian Bank of Commerce with the Cypress Club behind it. On the left is part of the now demolished post office, and across from that is what I've continued to refer to as the Tramps Block. There is also a sliver of the original city hall visible on the far right. I photographed this corner earlier this spring to compare and contrast.

Korite Ammolite Mine Tours (2008)

Fresh out of film school in the summer of 2008, I was hired by Tompkins Jewelers in Lethbridge to make a short promo video for their Korite ammolite mine tours. The project was straightforward, but it was a cool experience to see the mine up close and witness the excavation of ammonite for jewelry (where the fossil is refined into the gemstone ammolite).

Watching this video now is a reminder of how much experience I've gained, how many amazing places I've captured, and how much my work has improved in just a few short years. Despite the few upgrades I'd make now, this was a fun video to shoot. See more about this tour and ammolite at Tompkins Jewellers.

Giant Chess Set in Medicine Hat

This giant chess set in Medicine Hat, Alberta is recognized by Guinness World Records as the largest chess set in the world. Located along 1st Street in downtown Medicine Hat, visitors are welcome to play a game of chess on the giant board throughout the summer months. I've always been a fan of chess, and in this instance I found that chess can actually be quite photogenic too.
