On Friday night my family got together to celebrate my mom's birthday. Over Chinese food and birthday pie we shot the breeze, gave a few gifts, and as is usually the case, laughed at a lot of our own jokes. It was fun, and no one got mom a bigger card than I did. That's got to count for something, right?

Vintage Riverside Cenotaph Postcard
Over the holidays I received this cool postcard of the cenotaph in Riverside Park. It's difficult to date this one because there are no postmarks or other distinguishable features in the picture, but given the style it seems to match other postcards from between 1920-1940.
I love discovering these vintage postcards, and even more so if they've been used. They're not only a tangible and easily collectible bit of local history, but they also point out what someone considered to be a focal point of the city. Riverside Park has actually changed quite a bit over the decades, but the cenotaph has only become more of a centrepiece in the current design.
