Calgary Zoolights: 25th Anniversary

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Zoolights at the Calgary Zoo in Calgary, Alberta. After more than a decade since my last visit to Zoolights, this weekend I made the trek up to Calgary to capture the lights with friends, drink hot chocolate, and partake in the holiday festivities.

A Travel Photographer on the Canadian Prairies

Over the last 6 weeks I've found myself scouring the Canadian prairies in an effort to make up for some of the lost opportunities over the last year and a half. While some of this was planned, the majority of these shoots snowballed as a result of the extended warm weather, overdue visits, and frankly, because I just seemed to be on a roll. This autumn has seen new travel shoots across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, with features in Winnipeg, Brandon, Regina, Moose Jaw, Saskatoon, Calgary, Lethbridge, and of course, Medicine Hat.

Many of these shoots will continue to be added to the Hey, Canada series as they're completed, but below is a collage of some of the random snapshots from the last few weeks.

Wonderland at The Bow in Calgary, Alberta

Unveiled in 2013, Wonderland is a giant mesh head sculpture that sits in front of The Bow tower in downtown Calgary, Alberta. Created by Spanish artist, Jaume Plensa this installation quickly became a recognized landmark and popular photo spot within Calgary's core.

Art Print: The Launch of YYC1

"The Launch of YYC1" is the latest release and art print from the "Surreal Alberta" series. This image was one of my earliest digital experiments for the series where I thought it would be cool to reinterpret the Calgary Tower in Calgary, Alberta as a rocket blasting off into space.

Art Print: From Prairies to Mountains

From the prairies to the mountains, this new "Surreal Alberta" series I've been creating has been all about reinventing perspectives on the familiar. One moment you're admiring architecture, the next you're seeing landscape.

A lot of inspiration has been born simply out of playing in my digital archives again and rediscovering years of travel shoots around Alberta. In this case, the Calgary Central Library in downtown Calgary, Alberta provided some new puzzle pieces.

Art Print: Train Warp

"Train Warp" is a new addition to my surrealist Alberta, digital artwork series. Mix a little Willy Wonka, light refraction, and a vintage C-train from Calgary, Alberta together and who knows where we'll end up. Where we're going we don't need rails.

Updates to Alberta Travel Photography

While 2020 was a slow year for travel in general, one bright spot was finally having the time to complete some big updates to my various preview galleries for the professional travel content I've shot all over my home province of Alberta, Canada.

Several major refreshes for 2021 include travel photography from the Rockies, Calgary, Edmonton, the Canadian Badlands, and Southeast Alberta (including my hometown of Medicine Hat).

While you'll find a lot of content has been featured on this website, if you're looking to license material or inquire about a custom order, shoot me a message and I'll be able to quickly narrow your search or direct you to one of these newly created online preview galleries.

A lot of the preview content has been refreshed into online galleries for ease of sharing with clients or interested parties. While this was always the case to a certain extent, the extra time has allowed me to streamline my galleries, retire older content, finally add in some of the newer shoots, and take stock of how much there really was.

Looking for something specific? Just ask.

Close Encounters of the Calgary Kind

As I continue experimenting with ways of capturing night skies and landmarks together, I wanted to quickly share a new image featuring the Calgary Tower in downtown Calgary, Alberta.

Calgary Tower Night Sky
This latest shot was inspired by several other night sky releases over the last few months.

Just a couple weeks ago I sold out of 25 limited edition prints of 'Infinite Red' featuring the Saamis Teepee in Medicine Hat (as part of my Hometown Series). Undeniably there's still a lot of room to play here as I look to round out some of my professional travel libraries in 2021.
