Looking like a giant gingerbread castle in the Alberta Rockies, the Banff Springs Hotel in Banff National Park looks as incredible as ever on a winter's night in the lead up to Christmas.

Then & Now Series in Medicine Hat, Alberta
Inspired by some of the earlier comparison shots I'd created from hometown archival materials, this month I rebooted my "Then & Now" series featuring locations around Medicine Hat, Alberta. With the new additions focusing on Christmas scenes this month, one of the biggest changes is that the latest work will all end up in this new album on the Editing Luke Facebook feed.
This should not only make the "Then & Now" series considerably easier to explore - it should also make it more enjoyable to reference the various perspectives at a glance. Click the link above to have a look at the new album as it continues to grow.

Calgary Zoolights: 25th Anniversary
This year marks the 25th anniversary of Zoolights at the Calgary Zoo in Calgary, Alberta. After more than a decade since my last visit to Zoolights, this weekend I made the trek up to Calgary to capture the lights with friends, drink hot chocolate, and partake in the holiday festivities.

Northern Lights Over Southern Alberta
In the early hours of Thursday morning the aurora was painting the sky in streaks of green, purple, and red. I drove just north of Suffield, Alberta where the lack of light pollution resulted in some incredibly clear views of the northern lights. Unlike last month's sighting, this display was much more colourful and was the first time I'd ever seen the streaks of red in person.
With the popularity of these recent northern lights posts on Instagram I've been asked numerous times how I get my info. There are numerous apps and websites, but I've found this aurora forecast to be fairly accurate and a great way to gauge aurora activity in the area.

Haunted Homesteads on the Canadian Prairies
With a number of new travel shoots across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba this autumn, I inadvertently kept spotting abandoned houses and homesteads all over the prairies. These are just a few of the "haunted" highlights found on numerous backroads across the Canadian Prairies.

A Travel Photographer on the Canadian Prairies
Over the last 6 weeks I've found myself scouring the Canadian prairies in an effort to make up for some of the lost opportunities over the last year and a half. While some of this was planned, the majority of these shoots snowballed as a result of the extended warm weather, overdue visits, and frankly, because I just seemed to be on a roll. This autumn has seen new travel shoots across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, with features in Winnipeg, Brandon, Regina, Moose Jaw, Saskatoon, Calgary, Lethbridge, and of course, Medicine Hat.
Many of these shoots will continue to be added to the Hey, Canada series as they're completed, but below is a collage of some of the random snapshots from the last few weeks.

Aurora Over the Cypress Hills in Alberta
I had no intention of spontaneously driving out to the middle of nowhere, but I also wasn't expecting so many "are you going to capture the aurora tonight?" messages after the sun went down. Thank you to all those following the Editing Luke socials for the unexpected push as I would've been sleeping otherwise. It was unreal to witness this sky last night.

A Long Awaited "Welcome Back" to Co-op Place
Over the summer I had the pleasure of being commissioned by the newly rebranded Co-op Place to produce this "welcome back" commercial that just debuted during the Medicine Hat Tigers home opener for their 2021 season. As the premiere venue for concerts, hockey, and live events in Medicine Hat, Alberta it was a blast to have an entire arena to play in for this latest shoot.

Wonderland at The Bow in Calgary, Alberta
Unveiled in 2013, Wonderland is a giant mesh head sculpture that sits in front of The Bow tower in downtown Calgary, Alberta. Created by Spanish artist, Jaume Plensa this installation quickly became a recognized landmark and popular photo spot within Calgary's core.
