Jasper, Alberta

The town of Jasper, Alberta is the hub of Jasper National Park. In contrast to Banff, Jasper is notably smaller and as a result feels a bit more relaxed. The community is certainly still tourist driven, but it's a lot easier to get around. Between visits to the Jasper Park Information Centre and the surrounding mountains, these were some of the shots I took around town.

Jasper Park Information Centre Historic Site

Completed in 1914, the Jasper Park Information Centre is a National Historic Site of Canada. Located in the townsite of Jasper, Alberta, the building is noteworthy for its rustic architecture and use of local cobblestone and timber in its construction. The building originally housed the park administration offices, a museum, and residence for the superintendent of Jasper National Park.

Today, the Jasper Park Information Centre houses a gift shop, park information, and is surrounded by the beautifully landscaped Athabasca Park. As I explored Jasper, I continually found my way back to the Information Centre because of its central location. Not surprisingly, the park was a popular hangout for everyone else as well.
