Airport Art Wall: Chapter 3

After nearly two years since the project began, last week I had the pleasure of seeing my 12 panel art installation at the grand opening to the Medicine Hat Airport Terminal expansion. This permanent display is on the wall to the right of the departures entrance and is featured as a focal point at the end of the main corridor through the terminal. As you can imagine, I'm extremely proud to see my work become part of such a prominent landmark in my hometown.

I explained my selections and gave a bit more insight into the installation in my previous post, Chapter 2. I wrote that in early 2014 after the artwork had been finalized and delivered.

The grand opening event last week was a personal moment of pride for me. Not just because of the artwork, but because my business was nothing more than casual contract projects on the side back in 2013 when I was commissioned to do this. Today, Editing Luke has become my full-time job and has lead me to pursue a variety of unique and ambitious multimedia projects in Medicine Hat and abroad.

As passengers board their flights and perhaps glance to have a look at those pictures maybe they'll see something familiar. Maybe some will just like the colours. Maybe some will hate it, maybe it will give a few people something to talk about while they wait, and most likely, there will be people who will see things in it that I never did. In any case, it will be a subtle take away for all the people who come and go from the airport for years to come.

Standing there in departures I couldn't help but smile. A mere 12 panels hung on a wall, and as I watched the passenger plane push back from the terminal and taxi to the runway to takeoff, all I could think was, "what an incredible journey I'm on".

Paul Brandt & Dean Brody in Medicine Hat

On Thursday night Paul Brandt and Dean Brody had the Canalta Centre buzzing as their Road Trip Tour made a stop in Medicine Hat, Alberta. I was in the pit shooting concert photography that night and came away with some great candids of their energetic performances. Have a look at a few of the highlights I captured of these incredibly talented Canadian country artists below.
