World War II Memorial in Washington DC

Opened and dedicated in 2004, the World War II Memorial in Washington DC is located prominently on the National Mall. Complete with a reflecting pool, 56 pillars representing the states and territories of the United States, and two arches representing the Atlantic and Pacific theaters, the World War II Memorial is dedicated to all of the Americans who served.

Northern Lights Over Southern Alberta

In the early hours of Thursday morning the aurora was painting the sky in streaks of green, purple, and red. I drove just north of Suffield, Alberta where the lack of light pollution resulted in some incredibly clear views of the northern lights. Unlike last month's sighting, this display was much more colourful and was the first time I'd ever seen the streaks of red in person.

With the popularity of these recent northern lights posts on Instagram I've been asked numerous times how I get my info. There are numerous apps and websites, but I've found this aurora forecast to be fairly accurate and a great way to gauge aurora activity in the area.

Panthéon in Paris, France

Known as the temple of the French nation, the Pantheon in Paris, France was originally intended as a church to glorify the monarchy. By the time of its completion in 1790, however, the French Revolution had transformed the monument into a temple for distinguished citizens.

Formally declared a mausoleum in 1881, the Pantheon is currently the resting place for over 75 notable French luminaries from Voltaire to Emile Zola to Alexandre Dumas to Pierre and Marie Curie. The rooftop suite from one of my stays in Paris offered this unique view of the landmark.
